I LOVE feedback… usually.

Okay so i got an interesting email today, so i been away for a few days in Portsmouth visiting nan and others… anyway come back to what a expected… ton of emails :) fun…

And included this one, now i not going to post a name or anything because, Well i’m not going to be mean and start hating at this guy…

His email:

You f**king c***, thinking you know all this and that about computing, thinking you’re a PHP programmer, thinking you’re amazing at everything. Guess what? No, you’re not. You’re a fat f**k with no life who sits at his computer all day trying to do something that he has no idea about, finding PHP applications online, and then changing a few lines of code a bit, editing the copyright comments in the code and then claiming them as your own.

I’ve seen better websites designed by a 10 year old using a Microsoft Desktop Publisher, your hosting site is a rip off, especially on your VPS plans.

Get a f**king life you little faggot, go out and maybe you wont be so f**king fat you stupid little c***.

Okay so as you can see i stared out most of the swearing because well i dont want it on my blog.
So i decided i would try and find out what i have done, if anything, to cause this obviously kind gentelmen to feel this way towards me, i think i managed to remain out of the brown stuff and didnt lower myself at all :)
My Reply…
Dear Mr. **************,

I am terribly sorry you feel this way, although admittedly I’m not sure why you seem to so passionately despise me when I do not know you personally.

I would like to state I have never taken existing scripts and re-written or altered scripts and passed them off as my own, the few clients I have done PHP work for to my knowledge are pleased with the final product and are fully aware of everything within the script.

With regards to any website design, I have never claimed ANY skill in that area, and all of my live websites have either existing (free) templates or was designed by someone else and altered by myself to suit my needs better, for instance my Web Hosting site, was designed my a friend and I have merely changed it and tweaked it.

With regards to my VPS packages this is how I make money from hosting, you could note, i will be adding US VPS servers soon which should be slightly cheaper as costs are less when using US based servers compared to UK.

If you have any further comments or questions I would be more than happy to hear them.

Regards,
Dan Rodgers
Your Friendly ever so slightly stodgy PHP scripter! ;)
Just thought i would ask if anyone can think of what i did to cause this? :s
Comments welcome :)

Server Monitering “SwinServe” Script Coming soon…

I have began to write a server moniter script, keeping what im going to call it secret until its finished :)

I guess i will need to think of a code name like “Longhorn” (Vistas code name) for the moment I might go with SwinServe (I live in Swindon, and is a Server moniter script… ) works for me okay i have a code name.

Now i will explain what it will hopefully have.

The point of the script is obvious, it will moniter many aspects of your chosen server(s) and be able to display that information.

It will, collect and store information about the server, whats up whats down memory usage, CPU usage and hopefully also hdd usage.

This information can then be used to hopefully show and possibly even graph server status over a period of time through the Admin panel.

The script will obviously have a client page which shows the status of all the servers you have added, and shows the current usage(s) etc enabling clients to view whats going on.

I want this script to be fully flexible, and intend to allow admins to add any port they wish to moniter, and more. meaning it can be used for any purpose and wont be restricted to http/ftp/cpanel/whm/mysql/smtp/pop etc which would also mean, it can moniter things like shoutcast etc.

It would just be a simple form in the admin where you enter things like:

Server name

Server IP

Server URL

cPanel username/password

and then probably a seletion of tick boxes of all the ports to moniter, so if for instance it was just a MySQL server you would untick them all accept the mysql one, so on the moniter page, it shows the rest as “unmonitered” and only the required ports are used.

Also for the same u could set custom ports for that server.

Why cPanel username and password?

Nothing is firm at the moment, but it will most likely be used to access information privileged to the cPanel area.

Plugins/Mods:

I am planning to develop modifications for WHMCS, my client panel of choice, which will… if im clever enough, synce server info so u dont have to add them to both, softwares.

I am also planning to develop a new tpl file for server status which will incorporate SwinServe into the styles etc and make it fit in perfectly. and should (hopefully) function like it was part of WHMCS.

Once the initial built is complete and Version 1 is finalised, and fully working with WHMCS and cPanel i would be interested in developing it to work well with other server panels and client panels, however i wont be able to afford them to do the testing so as a note i may be trying to scronge access to your client area! just to make it work.

I am still undecided if i will make this open source/closed source of closed source and selling it.

I will be posting the developments as they come.
